Businessman Isaac Fayose has criticised First Lady Remi Tinubu’s recent appeal to Nigerian music stars to focus more on humanitarian causes, urging her to instead encourage APC governors to provide direct support for struggling Nigerians.
Remi Tinubu had recently called on top artistes such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake to establish charitable foundations aimed at helping the less privileged and easing the hardship faced by many citizens.
Reacting in a video shared on Instagram, Fayose argued that state governments under the All Progressives Congress (APC) should play a bigger role in supporting vulnerable people.
He suggested that APC governors should set aside ₦500 million every month from state funds to assist the poor.
Fayose also questioned the recent purchase of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for APC women leaders across several states, saying the money could have been used to improve the lives of low-income Nigerians.
“That money could have helped groundnut sellers, pepper sellers and other poor people in the states,” he said.
He maintained that if the First Lady advised APC governors to commit monthly funds to humanitarian support, they would likely comply.
Fayose, however, acknowledged that some Nigerian music stars are already making contributions in their own way.
“Davido, Burna Boy and Asake have been trying in their own way. The governors should do more,” he added.
His comments have added to the ongoing public debate over who should bear greater responsibility for supporting vulnerable Nigerians amid the country’s economic challenges.
