A major airport in Florida has officially been renamed in honor of U.S. President Donald Trump, marking another move to recognize the president with public landmarks and government institutions.
The airport, formerly known as Palm Beach International Airport, will now be called President Donald J. Trump International Airport after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the renaming into law.
Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump, celebrated the occasion by arriving at the airport aboard the family’s private Boeing 757, popularly known as “Trump Force One.”
Speaking after landing, Eric described the moment as special.
“I don’t think there’s anybody more synonymous with Palm Beach than Donald Trump and maybe all of Florida,” he said.
He also noted that travelers flying into the airport will now see the airport code and Trump’s name on their travel documents for years to come.
Reactions to the name change, however, have been divided. While some residents and travelers welcomed the decision, others argued that the airport’s original name better represented the area.
A corporate pilot, Chris Bailey, supported the move, saying Trump had “certainly done enough to warrant a name of an airport.” Another traveler, John Manov, disagreed, saying “Palm Beach is a better brand… It seems in poor taste.”
The airport renaming comes as more public facilities and government initiatives across the United States are being named after Trump, including bridges, federal programs and other official projects.
According to AFP, the development reflects the growing effort by Trump’s supporters to cement his legacy through public institutions, although critics argue it breaks with America’s long-standing tradition of avoiding the naming of public landmarks after serving political leaders.
