Former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his long experience in Nigerian politics has not exposed him to a president with better plans for the country.
Masari made the comment while addressing a group of women at a recent public event reportedly held in Kaduna. His remarks were contained in a video published by Hausa-language media platform HM Arewa.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said his assessment was based on almost four decades of involvement in Nigerian politics.
According to Masari, claims that the Tinubu administration has achieved little are similar to criticisms directed at previous governments.
He referenced former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, arguing that both administrations also faced accusations of tribalism and sectionalism during their time in office.
Masari further criticised the use of ethnic and religious sentiments in political discussions.
He questioned why religion should be associated with particular ethnic groups and urged women to use their influence within their families and communities to discourage what he described as divisive political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former governor also dismissed claims that Tinubu has achieved nothing, saying those making such arguments may be repeating the same pattern of criticism seen under previous administrations.
Masari served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and later governed Katsina State from 2015 to 2023. He was also appointed Deputy Director-General for Parliamentary Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in August.
His comments come as political activities continue to build ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the performance and policies of the Tinubu administration expected to remain major issues in the campaign.
