Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised several suspected terrorists during an overnight attack on their position in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on August 10, 2026, when a large number of terrorists reportedly attempted to overrun the troops’ Forward Operating Base (FOB).
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Operation Hadin Kai, Mohammed Goni, the troops responded with heavy fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after reportedly suffering significant casualties.
Several terrorists were neutralised during the confrontation, while troops recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the area.
Goni said surveillance footage later showed some of the retreating terrorists evacuating casualties from the scene, while the recovered items and footage were being subjected to further assessment.
However, the military disclosed that a few troops sustained injuries after part of the defensive position was temporarily breached.
Some combat equipment and vehicles were also damaged by rocket-propelled grenade fire, according to the statement.
The injured personnel were promptly airlifted and were said to be in stable condition while receiving medical treatment.
Following the attack, troops remained deployed around Gajiram and adjoining areas to maintain control of the area, monitor developments and prevent further attacks.
The military urged residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
“Troops continue to maintain high vigilance in and around Gajiram while exploitation of the operational area and further assessment of terrorists’ casualties and activities remain ongoing,” Goni said.
The Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against ISWAP terrorists until lasting peace and stability are restored in the North-East.
