The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has encouraged Nigerians struggling with drug addiction to seek professional help, assuring that support and recovery services are available around the clock.
The agency made the appeal as part of activities marking the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, stressing that no one battling substance abuse should suffer in silence.
Speaking in Abuja, NDLEA Secretary Shadrach Haruna said the agency operates a 24-hour counselling and referral service designed to provide immediate assistance to individuals dealing with drug dependence.
According to him, trained professionals are available to offer counselling, emotional support and referrals to treatment and rehabilitation centres across the country.
Haruna also urged families and friends of people battling addiction to take advantage of the service, noting that recovery becomes easier when individuals receive support from loved ones.
“If you know anyone who is suffering from drug use disorder, NDLEA is there to support,” he said.
The agency explained that its dedicated helpline was created to ensure quick access to professional assistance, regardless of a caller’s language or location.
Beyond treatment and rehabilitation, NDLEA said it is strengthening partnerships with churches, mosques and other faith-based organisations to expand awareness campaigns and support systems within communities.
Haruna noted that religious organisations play an important role in guiding families, counselling individuals and helping to prevent drug abuse among young people.
He added that NDLEA remains committed to combining enforcement with education, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in the fight against illicit drugs.
The agency called on Nigerians, community leaders and religious groups to work together to reduce drug abuse and support those seeking recovery.
