Residents of Agoti farm settlement in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome killing of an 18-month-old baby girl allegedly for ritual purposes.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on June 8, 2026, leaving family members and community residents in shock.
According to the child’s father, Bright Kalu, a farmer originally from Abia State, he had left the baby in the care of her mother while he went to a nearby settlement to purchase food items.
On his return, he noticed that his wife appeared distressed and immediately sensed that something was wrong.
“When I asked what had happened, she told me that someone had come to the camp and attacked her, and that she was able to rescue three of our children, but one was missing,” Kalu said.
The father said he quickly joined his elder brother in searching the area for the missing child.
Sadly, their search ended in tragedy after they reportedly discovered the lifeless body of the toddler behind their house.
According to Kalu, the child had been beheaded.
The devastated father has appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
The incident was initially reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before the case was transferred to the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that a suspect has already been arrested in connection with the case.
He added that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect would be charged to court once the probe is concluded.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about ritual-related killings in parts of the country.
