The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has concluded search and rescue operations following the collapse of a two-storey building at Alakija Bus Stop, Satellite Town, confirming that 27 people were rescued alive, while nine bodies were recovered.
The building collapsed around 12:47 p.m. on Thursday in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos, prompting an immediate emergency response.
According to LASEMA, its emergency teams, alongside other rescue agencies, arrived at the scene within 40 minutes to begin search and rescue efforts.
The operation ended around 4:00 a.m. on Friday after responders reached ground zero.
The agency said all 27 survivors received emergency medical attention before being taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Among the nine victims who lost their lives was a two-year-old girl, while the bodies have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for identification and release to their families.
Several emergency agencies participated in the operation, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, FRSC, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Red Cross.
Following the incident, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu directed the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) to inspect nearby buildings and ensure compliance with building safety regulations.
LASEMA also urged residents to promptly report distressed buildings to prevent similar tragedies.
