US President Donald Trump drew laughter from world leaders at the G7 Summit in France after boldly declaring himself “the boss” during the final day of the high-profile gathering.
The remark came as Trump arrived for the morning session on Wednesday, with other leaders already seated for discussions.
As he walked into the meeting, Trump jokingly told his counterparts:
“I’m the boss.”
The comment sparked laughter in the room, including from French President Emmanuel Macron, who appeared to take the remark in good spirits.
“How are you?” Macron asked.
“Good, thank you,” Trump replied before taking his seat.
Trump’s presence dominated much of the three-day summit in the French resort town of Evian, particularly after he recently announced an agreement aimed at ending the conflict with Iran.
The US president also arrived at the summit shortly after celebrating his 80th birthday, attracting significant attention from global media and political observers.
Unlike the previous G7 meeting in Canada, where Trump left before the event concluded, he remained throughout the summit and signed the final G7 communique.
In another notable gesture, Macron invited Trump to a private dinner at the historic Palace of Versailles after the summit.
However, the French president was quick to clarify that the gathering would not be a lavish state banquet.
The light-hearted exchange between the two leaders became one of the most talked-about moments from the summit as world leaders wrapped up discussions on key global issues.
