A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Hassan Liman (SAN), has declared that he will not withdraw from the 2027 governorship race for any candidate ahead of the party’s primaries.
Liman made the declaration on Sunday in Lafia while addressing journalists after meeting with APC executives at the party’s state secretariat.
The senior lawyer spoke amid reports that some aspirants had stepped down in support of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred candidate, Aliyu Wadada.
However, Liman insisted he remains fully in the race and would participate in the APC governorship primary scheduled for Thursday.
According to him, no individual or stakeholder has approached him to withdraw, adding that stepping down for another aspirant is not under consideration.
Liman expressed confidence that Governor Sule, whom he described as a democrat, would not attempt to pressure any aspirant into leaving the contest.
He noted that the governor had repeatedly stated that every aspirant who purchased nomination forms has the constitutional right to contest the primary election.
The APC governorship hopeful also pledged to abide by party guidelines and support efforts to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible primary process.
Speaking on the political atmosphere within the APC, Liman dismissed suggestions of internal division within the party ahead of the elections.
He acknowledged that Governor Sule has the right to express support for a preferred successor but stressed that such preference does not replace the democratic process of conducting primaries.
According to him, neither the Electoral Act nor the APC constitution restricts governorship aspirants based on regional considerations within the state.
Liman added that every qualified party member has the right to seek elective office, insisting that the ongoing contest reflects internal democracy rather than division within the APC.
