Four serving members of the House of Representatives have lost their bids to return to the National Assembly after the All Progressives Congress concluded its House of Representatives primaries in Ogun State.
The Ogun APC on Sunday released the list of candidates who emerged victorious across the state’s nine federal constituencies following the primaries conducted on Saturday.
The results were officially announced by the Chairman of the Ogun APC House of Representatives Primaries Committee and former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
Among the biggest casualties was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Isiaka Ibrahim, who failed to secure the APC ticket for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency after reportedly bowing to pressure from party leaders.
Sources within the party said Isiaka, who was seeking a fourth term, stepped down to pave the way for former Ogun Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, who emerged as the consensus candidate.
Adeleye, a former two-term member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, was said to have enjoyed strong backing from APC leaders amid calls for power rotation within the constituency.
Political stakeholders reportedly pushed for the seat to return to Ifo Local Government Area after three consecutive terms held by Isiaka, who hails from Ewekoro.
Other lawmakers who lost their return tickets include Abiodun Akinlade of Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency, Tunji Akinosi of Ado-Odo/Ota, Femi Ogunbanwo of Ijebu Ode/Ijebu North East/Odogbolu and Adesola Elegbeji of Remo Federal Constituency.
Akinlade was seeking a fifth term in the House before losing out in the primary exercise.
Elegbeji, who entered the House in 2025 following the death of former Deputy Chief Whip Adewunmi Onanuga, also failed to secure the party’s ticket.
Meanwhile, the APC confirmed the emergence of several new candidates across the state, including Joseph Adegbesan, Rasaq Daddah, Funmi Efuwape, Toyin Taiwo, Afolabi Afuape, Olumide Osoba, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Ayobami Bashorun.
Party insiders said many of the winners had earlier been adopted as consensus candidates by APC stakeholders before the primaries were conducted.
