Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that the club is far from done in the transfer market, as speculation continues to grow over a possible move for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the Brazilian winger in recent weeks, with reports claiming the Premier League side is monitoring his contract situation in Spain ahead of a potential transfer.
Speaking after Arsenal’s impressive 4-1 pre-season victory over Girona, Arteta refused to address Vinicius directly but made it clear that the club is actively working to strengthen the squad before the new season.
“We are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That’s clear,” Arteta said.
The Arsenal boss revealed that more transfer activity is expected in the coming weeks as the club looks to remain competitive.
“We expect to have movements in the next few weeks because we want to get better like anybody else. We won’t sit still, and we are very ambitious in what we want to do,” he added.
Arteta stressed that increasing competition within the squad is key to Arsenal’s ambitions of challenging for major trophies.
“The margins are very small. We need to increase the competition internally and identify the things that we don’t have in the team,” he explained.
His comments are likely to fuel fresh speculation over Arsenal’s transfer targets, with Vinicius Junior remaining one of the biggest names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
As the transfer window remains open, Arsenal are expected to continue exploring opportunities to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
