The announcement of results from the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primaries in Ondo State was disrupted on Sunday after suspected political thugs allegedly stormed the party secretariat in Akure.
The APC had conducted its House of Representatives primaries across the 203 wards in the state’s nine federal constituencies on Saturday in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Before the disruption, the party’s primary election committee had announced results for only three constituencies.
According to figures released earlier, Mrs Omowunmi Olatunji emerged winner of the Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency primary with 9,237 votes, while Dr Olumuyiwa Daramola secured victory in Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency with 6,547 votes.
The incumbent lawmaker representing Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency, Dr Abiola Makinde, also retained his ticket after polling 10,847 votes.
Trouble reportedly started around 7pm when the APC electoral committee, led by Iboroma Harry Dabib, arrived at the party secretariat to announce results from the remaining constituencies.
Eyewitnesses said some youths suspected to be political thugs suddenly invaded the venue, creating tension and disrupting the exercise despite the presence of security operatives.
The incident reportedly triggered panic among party members, journalists and officials at the secretariat, forcing many people to run for safety.
A source at the venue said the atmosphere became chaotic as the youths shouted and disrupted proceedings, making it impossible for the committee to continue announcing the results.
According to the eyewitness, members of the committee expressed fears over their safety and decided to suspend the exercise temporarily to avoid further escalation.
The source added that party officials and committee members later returned to the secretariat after calm was restored.
Reacting to the incident, Ondo State APC Secretary, Alex Kalejaiye, dismissed reports that party officials fled the venue permanently, insisting that activities later resumed normally at the secretariat.
He maintained that the committee was still working on the announcement of the remaining primary results.
However, as of the time this report was filed, the outstanding results had not been officially released.
