Fulham F.C. manager Marco Silva has confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has fully recovered from injury and is back in contention for Fulham’s crucial Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. on Sunday.
The return of the Super Eagles star comes as a huge relief for Fulham, who have struggled in recent weeks during his absence, and also provides a timely boost for Nigeria ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
Iwobi had been unavailable for selection after sustaining a hamstring injury during Fulham’s goalless draw against Brentford F.C. at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The injury forced the versatile midfielder off in the first half of the encounter and subsequently ruled him out of three consecutive Premier League matches against Aston Villa F.C., Arsenal F.C., and AFC Bournemouth.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Silva expressed satisfaction over the midfielder’s progress and confirmed that Iwobi had successfully returned to full team training.
The Fulham boss explained that the Nigerian international had gradually reintegrated into the squad over the past week and had trained consistently without setbacks.
According to Silva, the midfielder enjoyed a productive week in training and is now physically ready to compete again.
The Portuguese tactician also highlighted how important Iwobi has become to Fulham’s tactical setup, describing him as one of the club’s most influential and dependable players this season.
Silva explained that Iwobi’s versatility gives Fulham enormous flexibility because the midfielder can operate effectively in multiple positions across the pitch.
He further praised the former Everton F.C. and Arsenal F.C. star for his intelligence in possession and his ability to make quality decisions during matches.
According to the Fulham manager, Iwobi consistently adds balance, creativity, and composure to the team, making his return a significant advantage for the club at a critical stage of the season.
Silva stressed that the midfielder has repeatedly demonstrated his importance to Fulham throughout the campaign and admitted that having him available again is a major boost for the squad.
Before his injury setback, Iwobi had featured in 27 matches for Fulham this season and remained one of the club’s most reliable performers.
The Nigerian midfielder missed only a few games earlier in the season when he travelled with the Nigeria national football team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal finish.
His absence from Fulham’s squad coincided with a disappointing run of results for the London club as their hopes of securing European qualification began to fade.
Fulham managed to pick up only three points from their last three league matches during the period Iwobi was sidelined, increasing pressure on the team ahead of the closing stages of the Premier League season.
With just two matches remaining, Silva will now hope the midfielder’s return can help revive Fulham’s push for a stronger finish to the campaign.
Iwobi’s recovery is also expected to be welcomed by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who has relied heavily on the midfielder since taking charge of the national team.
The Nigerian playmaker remains one of the most experienced and influential figures within the Super Eagles squad, bringing creativity, energy, and tactical discipline to the midfield.
His return to fitness significantly strengthens Nigeria’s preparations ahead of upcoming international friendly matches against Portugal national football team and Poland national football team.
The friendlies are expected to play an important role in improving Nigeria’s FIFA ranking, especially after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the next FIFA World Cup.
Football analysts believe Iwobi’s experience and versatility will be crucial for both club and country as Fulham attempt to finish the season strongly while Nigeria continues rebuilding under Chelle’s leadership.
Fans will now be eager to see whether the midfielder can immediately rediscover the form that made him one of Fulham’s standout performers before his injury layoff.
