Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has spoken out about the ongoing conflict between her and her father-in-law, Mr. Joseph Aloba, suggesting that the dispute is being driven more by property interests than a search for truth.
In a recent interview with Channels Television, Wunmi alleged that her relationship with her father-in-law deteriorated shortly after Mohbad’s sudden and controversial death, claiming that instead of uniting in grief, attention quickly shifted toward the singer’s assets, royalties, and estate matters.
According to her, the situation worsened when discussions surrounding Mohbad’s properties and financial legacy became central to the family disagreement, leading to a widening rift between both parties.
Wunmi also addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the DNA test requested for her son, Liam. She made a serious allegation, claiming that her father-in-law desires a negative DNA result, which she believes would influence the ongoing inheritance and estate dispute.
“Baba Mohbad wants something I can’t give him. He wants the DNA of my child to be negative,” she stated during the interview.
Despite the tension, Wunmi revealed that her relationship with Mr. Aloba was once cordial, describing them as being close before family disagreements emerged. She noted that issues surrounding naming ceremonies and Mohbad’s reconciliation with his mother contributed to the breakdown in their relationship.
She further insisted that she has never refused a DNA test for her son, maintaining that she is open to undergoing the process at any time in order to clear doubts regarding paternity.
On the other hand, Mr. Joseph Aloba has previously expressed concerns about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, at one point alleging possible foul play involving Wunmi—an accusation she has strongly denied.
The ongoing family dispute continues to generate public attention, as Nigerians follow developments surrounding Mohbad’s estate, legacy, and the unresolved questions still surrounding his passing.
