Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed that security remains the central focus of his administration, stressing that no meaningful development can happen without peace and safety. He made this known while hosting a delegation of the Alumni Association of the Seventh Regular Course of the Nigeria Naval College in Umuahia, where discussions also covered governance progress, collaboration, and an upcoming reunion event in the state.
Governor Otti stated that his government places high importance on security because it is the foundation for stability, investment, and development across Abia State.
He explained that without a safe environment, economic growth and social progress would be impossible.
Otti on Security Priority
The governor made it clear that security remains a core policy direction of his administration.
He said:
“For us, security is a top priority. Without security, every other thing collapses.”
He emphasized that his government will continue strengthening security structures and policies to ensure long-term peace in the state.
Appreciation for Choosing Abia
Otti also appreciated the delegation for selecting Abia State as the venue for their 40th anniversary reunion.
He described the decision as a strong endorsement of the progress being made in the state.
He stated:
“I want to thank you for choosing Abia as the venue for your 40th anniversary reunion. We are very pleased to receive you and will do everything within our capacity to support your programme.”
He assured them of government support to ensure the success of the event.
Security Coordination for the Event
To ensure proper planning, the governor directed the Special Adviser on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), who is also part of the alumni association, to work closely with the group.
The aim is to ensure smooth coordination, adequate security, and effective collaboration before and during the event.
Otti on Ongoing Reforms and Progress
The governor acknowledged positive remarks from the delegation about developments in Abia but said his administration is still in its early stage of transformation.
He said:
“Thank you for noticing the modest changes we are making in the State. I can assure you that it is still early days.
We remain committed to doing more for the good of the people of Abia State.”
He assured residents that more improvements are still underway across key sectors.
Otti also used the opportunity to defend his appointment system, stressing that competence and merit guide all decisions.
He referenced the appointment of Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Security.
He explained:
“Without even knowing that he was your course mate, we appointed Commander McDonald Uba strictly based on merit.
We recognised his pedigree and competence. If he didn’t merit it, he wouldn’t have been appointed.”
He added that the appointment has already contributed positively to the state’s security framework.
Alumni Delegation Speaks
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Commodore A.O. Bamidele (Rtd), informed the governor about their planned 40th anniversary reunion and sought official support from the state government.
He said the group felt it was important to formally inform the governor before hosting such an event in Abia State.
He stated:
“We felt it would not be proper to host an event of such magnitude in your State without coming to pay homage.
We are here to seek your support and blessings as we prepare for this important occasion.”
Praise for Abia Transformation
Bamidele also commended the transformation seen in Abia State, especially in Umuahia and Aba, describing the changes as impressive and unexpected.
He said:
“When I entered Umuahia yesterday, I saw a new heaven, a place that is totally different. Something is clearly working here, and we want to be part of it.”
He further added:
“We are hearing so many good things about Abia. People now say that if you visit Aba, you may not recognise it again. That speaks volumes about your administration.”
Support for Government Efforts
He also praised the appointment of their colleague, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), and pledged continued support for Abia’s security efforts.
He said:
“We sincerely thank you for appointing Commander McDonald Uba as Special Adviser on Security. We are proud of him and remain committed to supporting your security initiatives in the State.”
The meeting ended on a positive note with both the Abia State Government and the alumni association expressing willingness to strengthen collaboration. Government officials present included the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and other senior aides.
The engagement reinforced the state’s focus on security, development, and partnerships aimed at sustaining ongoing reforms across Abia State.
