President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, saying he is healthy, strong and ready to resume his official duties.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday evening after travelling from Paris, France, where he spent the final part of his extended working vacation.
Speaking to journalists after his arrival, the President dismissed concerns surrounding his health and assured Nigerians that he was fit to continue carrying out his responsibilities.
“I enjoyed myself. Fantastic,” the President said.
“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” he responded.
“Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain: I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” Tinubu said.
The President left Nigeria on August 30, initially travelling to London before proceeding to Paris. The trip, which was initially planned as a three-week vacation, was later extended by a few days.
His prolonged stay outside the country generated political discussions, particularly after he did not personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the UN gathering and delivered the country’s national statement on behalf of the President.
The Presidency had maintained that Tinubu remained engaged with affairs in Nigeria throughout his time abroad and continued to direct government business.
During his stay in France, Tinubu held several meetings, including a private engagement with French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré and Femi Otedola.
He also witnessed the signing of an agreement involving the Ogun State Government and DP World concerning the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone, a project expected to attract significant investment.
Tinubu returned to Nigeria through Lagos ahead of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
While in Lagos, he is expected to attend official events marking October 1 and hold strategic meetings before eventually returning to Abuja.
