Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Kyiv has submitted proposals to US negotiators outlining a possible framework for ending the ongoing war with Russia.
Zelensky disclosed this in his nightly video address on Wednesday, saying Ukrainian officials had formally communicated their position to the American side as diplomatic efforts continue.
“We have conveyed our proposals to the American side,” Zelensky said.
He added that US negotiators were expected to travel to both Russia and Ukraine in the coming days, while Washington could also play a role in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
The Ukrainian president, however, did not reveal details of the proposals submitted to the US.
Peace Efforts Face Fresh Challenges
Efforts to reach a ceasefire have largely stalled, with Ukraine continuing to push for an end to the conflict after years of fighting.
Zelensky also raised concerns that Moscow could use next month’s parliamentary election as a justification for launching a fresh mobilisation.
The warning comes as Kyiv seeks renewed diplomatic engagement with Washington and other international partners in an attempt to find a path towards ending the conflict.
US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner last visited Moscow in January but have yet to travel to Kyiv.
Russia Maintains Key Demands
Moscow has said it remains interested in reaching a settlement but continues to insist that any agreement must address what it describes as the “root causes” of the conflict.
Russia has also demanded Ukraine’s full withdrawal from four regions claimed by Moscow as part of any potential peace agreement.
Kyiv has continued to reject Russia’s territorial demands while calling for a ceasefire and negotiations based on Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
The latest proposals submitted to the US could provide another opportunity for diplomatic discussions, although major differences between Moscow and Kyiv remain unresolved.
