US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States currently has “total control” of the strategic Strait of Hormuz and said Washington intends to maintain control of the vital waterway amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Trump made the statement on Wednesday in a post on his Truth Social platform, describing the US naval blockade around the region as a “wall of steel.”
“The U.S.A. has total control over the Strait of Hormuz. I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT!” Trump wrote.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes, particularly for oil and other energy supplies. The ongoing disruption has contributed to significant pressure on global energy markets.
Iran Disputes US Claim
Trump has repeatedly said that the United States controls the waterway, but Iran has rejected the claim and maintains that it controls much of the strategic route.
The dispute comes amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran, with shipping through the strait remaining heavily disrupted.
Trump also told reporters on Tuesday that the United States had “total control” of the waterway and claimed that Iran no longer controlled it.
US-Iran Conflict Keeps Shipping Under Pressure
The conflict has severely affected maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with the number of vessels passing through the route falling dramatically.
The reduced traffic has heightened concerns over global energy supplies and contributed to volatility in oil markets.
Trump has also indicated that the US could continue its strategy of restricting access to Iranian ports while Washington and Tehran remain locked in negotiations.
