Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has defended his administration’s plan to appoint 4,000 Special Assistants (SAs), saying the appointments will help bring government closer to residents at the grassroots.
Okpebholo spoke on Monday during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) members from the state’s 18 local government areas.
The governor said the appointments were part of efforts to strengthen the party and ensure that development and opportunities reach communities across the state.
“Appointing 4,000 SAs is not an issue at all because we all work for this victory. The victory does not belong to Okpebholo alone,” he said.
Okpebholo also reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, thanking party members for their support and stressing the importance of unity within the party.
He said his administration would continue working to ensure that governance reaches the grassroots.
Earlier, APC state chairman Jarret Tenebe praised the governor for what he described as efforts to reposition the party and increase its participation in governance.
Tenebe disclosed that the governor had approved the appointment of 25 Special Assistants in each of the state’s 192 wards, which amounts to 4,800 positions based on the figure he provided.
He said the meeting was organised to explain the criteria and guidelines for selecting those who would benefit from the appointments.
“The governor has decided to appoint 25 SAs in each of the 192 wards across the state,” Tenebe said.
He added that the APC State Working Committee had set up a committee to engage with the various wards and ensure that the selection process followed the stipulated guidelines.
