Minister of Works David Umahi has dismissed claims by Peter Obi that his life is under threat, insisting that no one wants the former Anambra State governor dead ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an inspection of President Bola Tinubu’s legacy projects in Ebonyi State on Friday, Umahi described Obi’s remarks as a sign of political frustration and warned him against repeatedly criticising the President.
“Nobody wants Obi dead. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again,” Umahi said.
The minister argued that the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure projects and development in the South-East have weakened Obi’s political influence in the region.
Umahi also declared his readiness to publicly debate Obi on the achievements of the current administration, particularly the Federal Government’s investment in infrastructure across the South-East.
“If Peter Obi attacks Tinubu, I will attack him,” Umahi stated.
He urged the former Labour Party presidential candidate to acknowledge the ongoing infrastructure projects under President Tinubu instead of criticising the administration.
Umahi further expressed confidence that President Tinubu would remain in office until 2031, adding that the South-East should support the President’s re-election in appreciation of what he described as unprecedented federal infrastructure development in the region.
