The Oyo State Government has extended the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park by an additional 24 hours as security operations continue following the recent school abductions.
The extension was approved by Governor Seyi Makinde and announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde, in a memo issued on Thursday.
According to the government, the curfew, which was initially expected to last 48 hours, will now remain in effect until Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The affected local government areas include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
The security measure follows the May 15, 2026 attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where bandits killed a teacher and abducted dozens of pupils and teachers.
One of the kidnapped teachers was later killed while in captivity, heightening concerns over the safety of the remaining victims.
The Federal and Oyo State governments have assured residents that security agencies are working to secure the safe release of those still being held.
Governor Makinde has also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring all abducted victims are rescued and reunited with their families.
