The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has urged Nigerians to put aside divisions and work together to tackle insecurity, stressing that the security challenges facing the country should not be viewed through regional or political lenses.
Speaking during a Democracy Day rally in Abuja, Mohammed Aboki, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly’s North-Central Zone, warned against the politicisation of insecurity and called for greater national unity.
According to him, insecurity is a challenge affecting every part of the country and requires a collective response from all Nigerians.
“Security is not a northern problem or a southern problem. It is Nigeria’s problem, and it demands Nigeria’s collective response,” Aboki said.
Call To Support Security Agencies
Aboki noted that Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule have been sustained partly through the sacrifices of security personnel working to protect lives and property.
He urged citizens to support the country’s security architecture and cooperate with agencies tasked with maintaining peace and stability.
The Arewa youth leader also expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its security challenges through collaboration between citizens and security operatives.
Praise For Tinubu, Service Chiefs
Aboki commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for backing the armed forces and security agencies in efforts to strengthen national security.
Also speaking at the event, Collins Eshiofeh, Convener of Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance, called on Nigerians to stand behind the nation’s service chiefs and avoid turning security issues into political tools.
He warned that using insecurity for partisan interests undermines the sacrifices made by soldiers, police officers, and intelligence personnel who have lost their lives defending the country.
Eshiofeh described the service chiefs as patriots committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and urged citizens to support their efforts.
The speakers concluded by calling on Nigerians to reject hatred, division, and political manipulation while working together to achieve lasting peace and security.
