Nollywood actor Bryan Okoye has revealed that persistence and self-belief were the only reasons he didn’t walk away from acting after years of rejection and disappointment in the industry.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actor shared how a painful audition experience nearly destroyed his confidence after a casting director allegedly told him acting was not meant for him.
According to Okoye, the comment came from someone he respected deeply, making the rejection even more heartbreaking.
“One particular rejection hit hard because I was told acting wasn’t for me,” he revealed.
The actor admitted he almost gave up completely, especially during periods when months passed without getting any acting role or opportunity.
Despite the setbacks, Okoye said his love for acting kept him going quietly behind the scenes while he continued preparing for his breakthrough moment.
He explained that many people now see him as a “new face” in Nollywood without knowing the years of hard work, struggle and silent preparation behind his recent success.
Bryan also opened up about typecasting in Nollywood, saying actors are often judged based on appearance, voice or personality. However, instead of allowing labels limit him, he focuses on proving his versatility through different movie roles.
The actor praised producers and casting directors who trusted him with challenging roles, especially his performance in Etiti, where he played a mentally unstable character who later became king.
Speaking on relationships, Okoye admitted that dating in the entertainment industry can be difficult because fame often affects trust and privacy.
His emotional story has sparked reactions online, with many fans praising his resilience and determination not to quit despite years of rejection.
