Sevilla secured their La Liga survival on Sunday despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid, while Mallorca moved closer to relegation after losing to Levante in the penultimate round of the season.
Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the match as Real Madrid claimed victory in Andalusia, but results from other fixtures ensured Sevilla remained safe from the drop.
Kylian Mbappe returned to the starting lineup after recent complaints over his role in the team and helped create the winning goal, bringing down a cross before setting up Vinicius to fire Madrid ahead.
The Brazilian later returned the favour with a pass to Mbappe, but the French striker wasted the chance by blasting over the bar. Mbappe also had a late goal ruled out for offside after rounding the goalkeeper.
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa praised his players after the match, saying the team showed commitment despite falling short of expectations this season.
He noted that while Vinicius got on the scoresheet this time, Mbappe also played an important role in the victory.
Elsewhere, Mallorca slipped deeper into relegation trouble after a damaging 2-0 defeat to Levante.
Carlos Espi opened the scoring before Kervin Arriaga sealed the win with a header, lifting Levante to 15th place and boosting their survival hopes.
The game also saw both sides reduced to 10 men following a heated altercation involving Johan Mojica and Roger Brugue.
Mallorca remain 19th on the table and now face a difficult final-day battle to avoid relegation, needing both victory and favourable results elsewhere.
Girona are also in danger after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid.
Atletico legend Antoine Griezmann made an emotional final appearance at the Metropolitano Stadium before his expected move to Major League Soccer side Orlando City.
Playing his 500th match for Atletico, Griezmann provided the assist for Ademola Lookman’s winning goal.
Club captain Koke paid tribute to the French forward, describing him as a player who always lifted the team during difficult moments.
Espanyol secured their safety with a 2-1 win over Osasuna, while Alaves also confirmed their place in next season’s top flight after defeating already relegated Real Oviedo 1-0.
Elche boosted their own survival hopes with a 1-0 victory over Getafe and will now face Girona in a potentially decisive final-day clash.
Valencia defeated Real Sociedad 4-3 in an entertaining encounter, while Celta Vigo confirmed European qualification after drawing 1-1 away to Athletic Bilbao.
Rayo Vallecano also celebrated veteran midfielder Oscar Trejo in his final home appearance as they defeated Villarreal 2-0.
Meanwhile, newly crowned La Liga champions Barcelona were set to host Real Betis later on Sunday in the final match of the weekend.
