The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved bail for former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million pending the hearing of his case.
In her ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik said the former governor must produce one credible surety who would stand for the same amount.
The court explained that the surety must be a resident of either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and must submit the original title documents of a landed property to the court registry as part of the bail requirements.
Justice Abdulmalik also ruled that the surety must be a senior federal government worker not below Grade Level 17. The individual is expected to present proof of salary payments covering at least three months, alongside a verification letter issued by a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
The judge further directed the surety to swear to an affidavit confirming financial capability, sign the bail undertaking, and provide a recent passport photograph for official documentation.
El-Rufai was equally ordered to hand over all his active international passports to the court pending the conclusion of the matter.
The court added that the surety must submit an official confirmation letter from their workplace as well as a tax clearance record covering the last six months.
As part of the conditions attached to the bail, the former governor must report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to confirm his presence until the trial is concluded.
Justice Abdulmalik warned that the bail would automatically lapse if any of the conditions are violated.
The judge also instructed the defendant to provide a letter of endorsement from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
