Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has urged pharmacists across Nigeria to firmly protect their profession against quackery and illegal practices in order to safeguard public health and strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
The governor gave the advice during the public presentation of a book organised to celebrate the 70th birthday of renowned pharmacist and academic, Professor Ahmed Tijani Mora, held at Hotel 17 in Kaduna.
Represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Professor Bello Ayuba, Governor Uba Sani stressed the need for pharmacists to remain vigilant and ensure that unqualified individuals do not infiltrate the profession and endanger lives through fake or unethical medical practices.
According to him, protecting the integrity of the pharmacy profession is necessary for maintaining effective healthcare delivery and public confidence in the medical system.
The governor also noted that proper monitoring and regulation should not be limited to pharmacists alone but extended across all sectors within the healthcare industry to ensure professionalism and quality service delivery.
Uba Sani described Professor Ahmed Tijani Mora as one of the most respected figures in the pharmacy profession, praising his decades of contributions to teaching, mentorship and healthcare regulation in Nigeria.
He stated that the celebrant’s impact on pharmacy education and professional development would remain unforgettable for generations to come.
The governor further commended the publication of the book titled “Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora: A Pillar of Pharmacy Regulation in Nigeria,” noting that the work would preserve the knowledge, experiences and achievements of the veteran pharmacist for younger generations.
According to him, the book helps ensure that the wisdom and contributions of respected professionals like Mora are not lost with time.
Speaking on his administration’s achievements, Uba Sani disclosed that his government had upgraded 255 Primary Healthcare Centres to Level 2 status across Kaduna State.
He explained that the development was aimed at ensuring that every ward in the state has access to improved primary healthcare services.
The governor also revealed that the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, which had been abandoned by previous administrations, has now been completed and fully operational under his government.
He added that his administration has equally strengthened secondary healthcare services through the renovation and upgrade of 15 General Hospitals across the state.
According to him, the welfare of healthcare workers has also improved through the implementation of CONHESS and CONMESS salary structures for medical personnel.
Beyond healthcare, the governor stated that his administration has made major investments in infrastructure, rural development and education over the last three years.
He disclosed that the government constructed 62 new science secondary schools while also renovating many old and dilapidated schools across Kaduna State.
Uba Sani explained that these investments have significantly improved learning conditions and boosted students’ performances in national examinations.
On agriculture, the governor said his administration has consistently supported farmers with agricultural inputs, adding that smallholder farmers have received free fertilisers for two consecutive years.
The governor also identified peace and security as one of the biggest achievements recorded by his administration.
According to him, Kaduna State has not experienced any religious or communal crisis within the last three years, a development he described as a major milestone considering the state’s history of violent conflicts.
He explained that the peaceful atmosphere has encouraged free movement, improved business activities and attracted both local and foreign investments into the state.
The governor added that the improved security situation has also made it possible for his administration to execute major projects including mass transit schemes, transport terminals and three skills acquisition centres located in Soba, Rigachukun and Samaru Kataf.
