Bola Ahmed Tinubu Nominates Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power, Replacing Adebayo Adelabu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe, a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, as the new Minister of Power. He is set to replace Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition.
The announcement was made on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation, in line with constitutional requirements.
Tegbe currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he plays a key role in strengthening development cooperation between Nigeria and China.
According to the presidency, his nomination is part of ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Hailing from Oyo State, Tegbe is widely regarded as a fiscal and economic reform expert, with over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors. During his time at KPMG Africa, he led major initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.
He has also advised several government agencies and private sector organizations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring. His experience extends to the power sector, where he has been involved in regulatory and institutional reforms, working with key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The presidency expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe will leverage his extensive experience to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s power sector.
