Nollywood actor Fred “Tenkobo” Ebere has publicly criticised Stella Okafor, the widow of late comic actor John “Mr Ibu” Okafor, following her recent appeal for financial assistance.
Stella had earlier revealed that her family was facing financial hardship, saying they were struggling to pay rent, settle electricity bills and keep their children in school.
Reacting in a video shared on Instagram, Tenkobo accused the widow of repeatedly using the late actor’s name to seek public sympathy and donations.
“Stop using his name to beg,” he said, arguing that Mr Ibu worked hard during his lifetime and made investments for his family.
The actor disclosed that he contacted Valentine Okafor, Mr Ibu’s first son, after watching Stella’s video, saying the conversation left him deeply emotional.
Tenkobo, who described his relationship with the late actor as one that evolved from colleagues to close friends and business partners, questioned the narrative that Mr Ibu left nothing behind after his death.
He claimed the late Nollywood star acquired several landed properties during his lifetime and alleged that some of those assets had already been sold.
“That man made money from Nollywood, and he invested it. He bought lands and houses,” Tenkobo said.
He also questioned why Stella was not pursuing a business or other means of income instead of repeatedly appealing to the public for financial support.
The actor further disputed Stella’s claim that Chelsea is Mr Ibu’s only daughter, insisting the late actor had several children.
His comments come shortly after Somtochukwu Okafor, one of Mr Ibu’s sons, also dismissed Stella’s claims, alleging that several of the actor’s properties had been sold after his death.
Neither Stella Okafor nor other members of the family had publicly responded to Tenkobo’s latest allegations at the time of filing this report.
