Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of appointing Enzo Maresca as their new manager following Pep Guardiola’s departure, with reports claiming the club has agreed a compensation package worth over £17 million with Chelsea.
The Italian coach is expected to return to the Etihad Stadium, where he previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s historic treble-winning season.
According to reports from Italy, a verbal agreement has already been reached, and Maresca could complete the move within days as Manchester City prepare for a new chapter after Guardiola’s exit.
Maresca is no stranger to the club’s philosophy and structure. Before his spell at Chelsea, he managed Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad and later rejoined Guardiola’s coaching staff.
His strong understanding of City’s style of play is believed to have made him the leading candidate for the job.
The 46-year-old has been without a club since leaving Chelsea earlier this year, despite overseeing a successful period at Stamford Bridge.
During his time with the Blues, Maresca guided the team to major silverware, including the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup, while also helping secure Champions League qualification.
Manchester City are now looking to maintain the standards set during Guardiola’s trophy-filled era, which delivered numerous domestic and European honours over a decade.
If the deal is finalized, Maresca will face the huge task of continuing City’s success while stepping into the shoes of one of football’s most successful managers.
