The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.
The party described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a “unity and rescue ticket”, saying it offers Nigerians an alternative leadership option ahead of the next general election.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, following consultations involving party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as stakeholders from across the country.
According to the party, Amaechi emerged after finishing as runner-up in the ADC presidential primary and enjoying widespread support among party members and stakeholders.
ADC said Amaechi’s political experience and track record in public service make him a strong complement to Atiku’s candidacy. The former minister has served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State for two terms, and later as Minister of Transportation, where he supervised several rail and transportation projects.
The party further stated that the combination of Atiku’s national political experience and Amaechi’s influence across the South-South and other parts of Southern Nigeria strengthens its chances ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
Describing the duo as “tested statesmen,” ADC expressed confidence that the ticket possesses the leadership capacity and national appeal needed to tackle Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.
The announcement is expected to further shape political realignments as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
