Real Madrid have reportedly secured the return of legendary Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, with the veteran coach set to begin a new chapter at the Santiago Bernabeu after agreeing to a three-year contract.
The move marks a stunning reunion between Mourinho and the Spanish giants more than a decade after his first spell in charge, a period that saw him deliver major trophies and restore Madrid’s competitive edge against some of Europe’s strongest teams.
According to reports, an agreement has already been reached between both parties, although the club is expected to delay the official unveiling until after its presidential election scheduled for June 7.
Mourinho is said to be leaving Benfica after guiding the Portuguese club through the recently concluded season, where they finished third in the league standings.
The experienced manager is no stranger to life in Madrid. During his first stint at the club between 2010 and 2013, he won the La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup while building one of the most competitive squads in Europe.
His return comes after a difficult campaign for Los Blancos, who ended the 2025/26 season without lifting a single trophy.
Real Madrid fell short in the La Liga title race, while their Champions League hopes were dashed following a quarter-final exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Club officials are believed to be banking on Mourinho’s vast experience, winning mentality and tactical expertise to help restore Madrid’s dominance both in Spain and across Europe.
Since leaving Real Madrid in 2013, Mourinho has managed several top clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and Fenerbahce.
Among his achievements during that period were a Premier League title with Chelsea, a Europa League triumph with Manchester United and a Europa Conference League title with Roma.
Now, Madrid fans will be eager to see whether the self-proclaimed “Special One” can once again deliver success and silverware at one of football’s biggest clubs.
