Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, has explained why he has largely stayed away from social media over the years, describing many online conversations as distractions from the real issues affecting Nigerians.
The respected actor shared his thoughts in a recent post on Instagram, where he expressed concern over the kind of content that often dominates social media platforms.
According to Udokwu, many topics that go viral online have little connection to the everyday struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians, yet they continue to attract massive attention and consume valuable time.
The 59-year-old actor said he finds it troubling that people dealing with economic hardship and personal challenges often spend hours engaging in discussions that add little value to their lives.
He also criticised the growing culture of trolling, online bullying, insults and endless social media feuds, which he believes have turned many platforms into toxic spaces.
The Nollywood star explained that his decision to remain mostly silent online was intentional, as he preferred observing conversations from a distance while concentrating on his career and personal growth.
According to him, staying away from unnecessary online drama has allowed him to focus on what truly matters instead of getting caught up in the constant cycle of controversies and social media battles.
Despite his reservations, Udokwu revealed that he may be changing his approach soon.
The actor disclosed that many of his fans have repeatedly asked him to become more active online, prompting him to consider engaging more frequently with supporters.
While maintaining that he has no regrets about keeping a low profile on social media, he hinted that followers should expect more interactions and content from him in the future.
His comments have since sparked conversations among fans, with many agreeing that social media has become increasingly dominated by trolling, negativity and issues that often overshadow more important national conversations.
