Manchester City have announced plans to appeal a Premier League verdict that found the club guilty of breaching financial regulations during an earlier period.
The club said it was “disappointed and surprised” by the decision, which relates to alleged financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.
In a statement, City rejected the findings and said it would use the available appeal process to challenge the verdict.
“Manchester City FC will now pursue the appeal avenues open to it, on the basis that the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact, and is unsafe,” the club said.
The decision follows a lengthy process involving allegations concerning the club’s financial conduct during the period in question.
Manchester City has consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that it has complied with the relevant financial regulations.
The club’s latest statement indicates that the dispute will now move into the appeal stage, where it intends to challenge the conclusions reached in the Premier League process.
The outcome of the appeal could determine whether the verdict stands or is altered following further consideration of the club’s objections.
