Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied reports that he is lobbying to become the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the report as false, saying he had never discussed the leadership or membership of the President’s campaign council with anyone.
The denial followed a media report listing Wike among politicians and government officials allegedly interested in the position of APC Presidential Campaign Council Director General.
The FCT minister, however, reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, insisting that he does not need to occupy a position in the campaign council to contribute to the President’s electoral success.
“I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.
Wike said he was currently outside Nigeria taking a break after spending more than 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT.
He said that upon his return, his focus would remain on delivering on his mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while also working to strengthen Tinubu’s electoral fortunes in Rivers State and the FCT.
The former Rivers State governor also maintained that his support for Tinubu did not depend on securing a position within the President’s campaign structure.
