Nigerians living in the United Kingdom are set to receive additional support with passport applications as the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) deploys a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the country.
The intervention is aimed at helping Nigerians with pending applications, new passport applications and renewals, as part of efforts to make passport services more accessible to citizens in the diaspora.
The move was directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who asked the Comptroller-General of Immigration, K. N. Nandap, to deploy the team from the NIS headquarters to the UK.
The team is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on August 10, 2026, and will work alongside the Nigerian High Commission to process and issue passports to eligible applicants.
Team to Visit Different UK Cities
Rather than limiting the exercise to one location, the NIS said the intervention team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing.
This is expected to make it easier for Nigerians living in different parts of the UK to access the service without necessarily travelling long distances.
The intervention will cover applicants whose passport applications are already pending, people applying for new passports and existing passport holders with less than one year before expiry who want to renew their documents.
Applicants are expected to come with their completed application forms and proof of payment when attending their enrolment.
NIS Warns Applicants to Wait for Official Schedule
The immigration service said details of the exercise, including the cities to be visited, dates, venues and enrolment times, will be released separately.
“Applicants are therefore advised not to proceed to any location until the relevant schedule has been officially communicated,” the agency stated.
NIS also urged applicants to follow the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK for updates and avoid relying on unverified information.
Digital Passport Services Remain Available
The agency said its digital passport application platforms will continue to operate during the intervention exercise.
This includes the Contactless Passport Application System, while the passport home delivery service will also remain available to applicants.
For enquiries and complaints relating to the UK intervention, applicants can contact the NIS through passport.london@immigration.gov.ng or its WhatsApp-only line at +234 916 087 8000.
The NIS said the exercise is part of its broader commitment to improving passport services for Nigerians both at home and abroad.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to efficient, transparent and responsive passport Service Delivery to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.”
