A Nigerian man, Obinwa Obichukwu, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a lone woman at Euston railway station in London.
Obichukwu, 45, who lives on Armstrong Close, Borehamwood, was convicted on two counts of sexual assault following a trial at Inner London Crown Court.
The court heard that the incident happened on the evening of August 20, 2023, when Obichukwu approached the woman as she walked towards Euston station.
According to prosecutors, he started a conversation by asking what music she was listening to before putting his arm around her shoulder and inviting her back to his house. As the woman continued walking along Euston Road, he reportedly grabbed her hand and repeatedly told her he loved her.
When she reached the entrance of the station, Obichukwu allegedly blocked her path and sexually assaulted her.
Although the victim tried to get away by heading down the escalator towards the Underground platforms, the court heard that he followed her and sexually assaulted her again near the ticket barriers. She eventually managed to push him away and escape.
The incident was reported to the British Transport Police (BTP), whose investigators reviewed CCTV footage that helped identify the suspect and led to charges being filed by the Crown Prosecution Service.
During the trial, Obichukwu claimed the encounter was consensual. However, the jury rejected his defence and found him guilty in January 2026.
He was sentenced on July 21, 2026, to two years in prison. The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, while placing him on the Sex Offenders Register for the next decade.
Reacting to the judgment, British Transport Police Detective Constable Daniel Burke said the convicted man deliberately targeted a woman who was alone at one of London’s busiest railway stations.
“The jury saw through his account at trial,” Burke said.
He added that tackling violence against women and girls remains a top priority for the force and encouraged victims or witnesses of similar incidents on the railway to report them by texting 61016.
