President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm seven nominees proposed for positions on the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC).
The request was presented to the Senate on Tuesday after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s letter during plenary.
Tinubu said the nominations were made in line with Section 5(3) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, which provides for the constitution of the commission’s governing board.
Following the reading of the letter, the Senate referred the nominations to its Committee on Finance for consideration.
The committee was directed to complete its work and report back to the Senate within two weeks.
The nominees were earlier announced in July, with Abdullahi Saidu nominated as chairman of the FRC.
Other nominees are Muhammad Asma’u, Muhammad Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis Ndukwe, Amechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola, who were nominated as members of the commission.
The Fiscal Responsibility Commission was established under the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, as part of efforts to promote prudent management of public finances.
The commission is responsible for monitoring compliance with the provisions of the law and promoting transparency and accountability in the management of government resources.
If confirmed by the Senate, the nominees will join the commission’s leadership in carrying out its statutory responsibilities on fiscal management and accountability.
