The Presidency has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 election has not been withdrawn and will not undergo a complete review, although some changes may still be made where necessary.
Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
Dare was responding to reports that the APC had withdrawn the campaign council list following controversy over the inclusion and exclusion of some party leaders and political figures.
He said the list remains valid, explaining that the campaign structure is not yet complete because several subcommittees are still being constituted.
“That list has not been withdrawn. The APC has issued a statement to that effect yesterday, that list stands. But of course, there will be adjustments.”
According to Dare, additional names could still be included as the party creates more subcommittees and finalises the campaign structure.
The APC had on Tuesday also rejected reports that the list had been withdrawn.
Tinubu, Shettima Named in Campaign Council
The campaign council announced over the weekend named President Tinubu as chairman, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were listed as vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdul’aziz Yari was appointed Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.
However, questions were raised about some of the names included on the list, prompting speculation that the APC could reconsider its composition.
When asked whether the list was therefore open to review, Dare deliberately avoided the word “review”, saying the expected changes should instead be regarded as adjustments.
“Not a review, just adjustments where necessary.”
The presidential aide explained that a review would suggest a complete overhaul of the council, which he said was not what the APC was planning.
“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale.”
Dare added that the formation of additional subcommittees would allow more party members and political stakeholders to participate in the APC’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 election.
