Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has welcomed the call for peace by the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, following the conclusion of the state’s governorship election.
Oyebamiji had urged APC members and his supporters to remain peaceful and respect the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while maintaining that his party would review the outcome of the election.
Adeleke described the APC candidate’s position as a positive development after weeks of intense campaigning and political tension in the state.
The governor, who also met with President Bola Tinubu after the election, said the peace appeal was particularly important for residents who experienced tension and violence in the weeks leading up to the poll.
Adeleke said his team had never supported violence as a political strategy, despite the pressure surrounding the election.
“I am forever a man of peace. It is heartwarming that my brother, Oyebamiji, is also preaching peace.”
He assured Oyebamiji that his supporters would not attack APC members and urged political leaders across the divide to focus on the development of Osun State now that the election had ended.
“Elections have come and gone and we are all winners.”
Adeleke also invited former governor Gboyega Oyetola, Oyebamiji and other opposition leaders to work with his administration in advancing the state.
“We are all important stakeholders in this Osun project.”
