The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has rejected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s newly constituted 2027 campaign council, describing it as a team of “yes men” and politically discredited figures.
In a statement issued on Saturday, APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf said the composition of the council reflected what the party described as Tinubu’s declining political standing and alleged difficulty in attracting credible figures with public support.
The party particularly criticised the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari as Director-General, alleging that insecurity and poor living conditions worsened in Zamfara during his administration.
“If after three and half years in power, President Tinubu could not garner the capacity to assemble a credible team, then it is clear that indeed he has no business being in charge of a nation as complex and demanding as Nigeria,” Yusuf said.
APM also accused members of the campaign council of being “known political sycophants, inconsistent characters and ideology turncoats.”
The party further attacked the Tinubu administration over insecurity and the economy, alleging that 628,000 Nigerians had been killed and more than 2.2 million people abducted since the President assumed office. It also claimed that more than 140 million Nigerians had been pushed below the poverty line, while putting unemployment at 33 per cent.
APM argued that the recent Osun governorship election should serve as a warning to the Tinubu campaign, claiming the result showed limits to the President’s ability to mobilise popular support ahead of 2027.
“The Tinubu Campaign Council should note that their mission is dead on arrival,” the party declared.
APM Pushes Makinde as Alternative
The party then presented its presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as an alternative to Tinubu, claiming he is gaining support among Nigerians.
According to Yusuf, a proposed Makinde/Daura administration would focus on security, industrialisation, youth employment, infrastructure, an efficient public service and sustainable economic growth.
APM said its proposed governance blueprint would prioritise transparency, inclusive human development and prudent management of public resources.
The party urged Nigerians to look beyond the APC campaign council and support what it described as a “new beginning” under its proposed Makinde/Daura presidency.
