Mavin Records founder Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed the significant impact singer Ayra Starr has had on his life and career.
Don Jazzy made the revelation in a post on X while reflecting on Ayra Starr’s journey and recalling how he discovered the singer through an Instagram freestyle before eventually signing her to Mavin Records.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle.”
He described Ayra Starr as a “dream Starrgirl,” highlighting the important role she has played in Mavin’s growth and his own journey as a music executive.
How Don Jazzy Discovered Ayra Starr
In an interview on The Echo Podcast last year, Don Jazzy recalled discovering Ayra Starr on Instagram and signing her to Mavin Records in 2020 when she was just 18.
He said her talent immediately stood out to him when he first came across her freestyle.
“The minute I saw her, I was like, this is it.”
According to Don Jazzy, signing Ayra Starr was part of his effort to develop a young Nigerian female artiste capable of achieving international success.
