The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, describing it as a “rehabilitation centre” for people facing unresolved corruption allegations.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party questioned the return of some individuals to prominent political positions despite previous allegations of financial misconduct and reported EFCC investigations or prosecution.
The ADC asked what happened to the corruption cases involving those now included in the campaign structure.
“If they have been cleared, the government should show how and when and by whom they were cleared,” Abdullahi said.
The party alleged that corruption investigations under the Tinubu administration often fade from public attention, only for some of the individuals involved to later return to political or government positions.
“Under this government, corruption allegations increasingly appear to have an expiry date,” the ADC said.
ADC: 2027 Will Be a Referendum
The opposition party also described the 2027 election as a referendum on Tinubu’s three-year record, accusing the administration of worsening poverty and the cost-of-living crisis while politically connected Nigerians enjoy what it called “obscene opulence.”
The ADC argued that the government’s campaign could not erase the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.
“They cannot campaign away the cost of living crisis or the endemic poverty that their bad policies have created.”
The party renewed its proposal for a targeted, capped, budgeted and independently audited fuel-production subsidy, saying the measure could help reduce pump prices and ease pressure on households.
“Every naira must be traceable and every barrel accounted for,” the ADC said.
The party also challenged President Tinubu to account for what it described as wasteful and misguided policies under his administration.
