Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his personal financial journey while discussing the difference between appearing wealthy and actually having personal financial independence.
Davido made the remarks during an appearance on the digital talk show Uncut, where he reflected on his past struggles and the financial realities of some people from wealthy families.
The singer said that having wealthy parents or living a luxurious lifestyle does not necessarily mean an individual has substantial personal wealth.
“I was broke. I got friends with rich parents that are broke. I’m telling you,” Davido said.
He explained that some of his friends live in expensive areas such as Ikoyi, stay in mansions and have police escorts, yet may not have significant personal funds.
“I have rich friends that live in Ikoyi and they live in mansions and they have police escort, but they are… they don’t got no money. Facts.”
Davido’s comments have sparked conversations online about wealth, inherited privilege and the difference between family status and individual financial independence.
The singer’s remarks highlight how outward displays of affluence, including luxury homes, security details and prestigious locations, may not always reflect a person’s actual liquid wealth or financial position.
