Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, says he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election but has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Davido made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday while discussing his political plans and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The singer said his uncle’s political decision was his personal choice and did not mean he would follow the same path.
“Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC,” Davido said.
Davido recalled that he had supported different political candidates and parties in previous elections, including Atiku Abubakar when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power and the APC during its 2015 merger period.
He also recalled campaigning for his late uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, who was associated with the APC.
However, Davido said he currently has no candidate he feels compelled to support and believes every Nigerian should be free to make their own political choice.
His comments come after his prominent involvement in the Osun governorship election, where he publicly supported his uncle and participated in voter mobilisation efforts.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has since endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, saying his decision is influenced by the President’s position as a Yoruba leader and the federal government’s infrastructure and development projects in the South-West.
