Ademola Adeleke has secured a second term as governor of Osun State after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared winner on Sunday morning after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) completed the overnight collation of results in Osogbo, the state capital.
INEC Returning Officer Joshua Ogunwole announced that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious.
Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs.
The election was held amid concerns over security following reports of violence and attacks in parts of the state before the poll.
Despite the tension, voters turned out in significant numbers, with some polling units recording large crowds.
Reports of major election-related violence were limited on voting day, although there were incidents involving the harassment of journalists and disruptions at some polling units.
Voting started early in several areas, but technical problems involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) caused delays at some locations.
The election also recorded reported cases of vote-buying and allegations of voter intimidation in parts of the state.
With the final results declared, Adeleke is set to continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term.
