Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been urged by supporters online to take inspiration from Arsenal’s long-awaited Premier League triumph as he prepares for another presidential bid in 2027.
The lifelong Arsenal fan joined millions of supporters celebrating the club’s first league title since the famous “Invincibles” season of 2003/04, ending a painful 22-year wait for Premier League glory.
Reacting to the historic victory on social media, Atiku praised the team’s resilience and determination.
“Congratulations to Arsenal on a well-deserved Premier League victory. This title is a testament to resilience, discipline, teamwork, and the courage to keep believing, even when the odds seemed difficult,” Atiku wrote.
“As a proud supporter, tonight is special. Well done to the players, the manager, and the incredible fans who never stopped believing. North London is red again,” he added.
Arsenal’s victory comes after several seasons of near misses, with Mikel Arteta’s side finishing runners-up three consecutive times before finally reclaiming the title.
Following the triumph, many Nigerians drew comparisons between Arsenal’s long title drought and Atiku’s repeated attempts to become Nigeria’s president.
For years, social media users had mocked the former vice president over Arsenal’s late-season collapses, linking them to his own political losses.
Now, with Arsenal finally lifting the trophy, some supporters believe the breakthrough could symbolise a turning point for Atiku’s political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former PDP presidential candidate has pursued Nigeria’s top office for more than three decades, beginning from the 1993 SDP presidential primaries.
Since then, Atiku has contested multiple presidential elections, including in 2007, 2019 and 2023, but has yet to secure victory.
Despite the setbacks, the veteran politician is reportedly intensifying efforts to secure the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket for the 2027 race.
