An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has died after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at about 3:28 p.m., according to the Kano State Fire Service.
The Fire Service disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the victim’s father, Aminu Lawan, alerted the Fire Service after his son fell into the pond.
Fire Service Recovers Victim
Personnel from the Danbatta Fire Service station immediately mobilised to the scene following the distress call.
The rescue team recovered Abdullahi from the pond unconscious and took steps to assist him.
However, the Fire Service said he was later confirmed dead.
“Unfortunately, he was later confirmed dead,” the statement said.
The deceased was subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
Fire Service Warns Residents
The Kano State Fire Service expressed sympathy to the bereaved family over the tragic incident.
The agency also urged residents to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the current period.
It advised members of the public to remain vigilant around water bodies to help prevent similar accidents and loss of lives.
