Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has revealed that he has remained faithful to his wife, Sherifat, throughout their marriage.
Aregbesola made the disclosure while speaking to supporters at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba, the former governor said his commitment to his marriage was rooted in his fear of God and a personal promise he made to himself.
He described his marital fidelity as part of a personal spiritual commitment while seeking divine intervention in his political aspirations.
“Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife,” Aregbesola said.
He also spoke about his political hopes, telling supporters that he had asked God for success in his current political journey.
“I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house,” he added.
Aregbesola Backs ADC Ahead of Osun Poll
Aregbesola, who served as Osun governor from 2010 to 2018, is now the national secretary of the ADC, which is campaigning to challenge the incumbent administration in the forthcoming governorship election.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election, while Bola Oyebamiji is contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Folasayo Salaam is the ADC candidate.
With the election approaching, the ADC has stepped up its campaign activities across the state as it seeks to unseat the incumbent government.
Aregbesola’s comments at the rally have added a personal dimension to the party’s campaign as political activities intensify ahead of the poll.
