MTN Nigeria has confirmed that its 25GB free data anniversary reward is genuine, but has warned subscribers to be careful of fraudulent links and platforms being circulated online in connection with the promotion.
The warning follows the spread of messages on social media and other online platforms claiming to offer customers free 25GB data as part of MTN’s 25th anniversary celebration.
In a scam alert, the telecommunications company urged subscribers to ignore suspicious offers and only access the promotion through its authorised platforms.
MTN said the official 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available exclusively through the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.
“Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online,” the company warned.
MTN further cautioned customers against clicking on unverified links, sharing personal information or making payments to websites and platforms claiming to offer the anniversary reward.
“The official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available ONLY via the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.”
The company added:
“Do not click on links, share your personal information or make payments on any other platform claiming to offer the giveaway. Only trust official MTN channels.”
MTN Confirms 25GB Reward Is Real
The warning comes as scammers appear to be taking advantage of the genuine anniversary promotion to make fake offers look legitimate and potentially trick subscribers into revealing sensitive information or sending money.
A source at MTN confirmed that the company did provide subscribers with 25GB of free data as part of activities marking its 25th anniversary.
“Yes, we gave subscribers 25GB free yesterday to commemorate our 25th anniversary,” the source said.
However, MTN stressed that customers should access the promotion only through its authorised channels.
The telecom operator specifically warned subscribers not to make payments in exchange for the 25GB data and advised them to treat any platform outside the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop claiming to offer the reward with caution.
Subscribers Warned Against Fake Giveaway Platforms
The development highlights the growing risk of online fraudsters impersonating major brands and using popular promotions to target unsuspecting consumers.
MTN urged subscribers to verify anniversary-related offers through its official communication channels before clicking on links, submitting personal information or taking any action.
Customers were also advised not to forward unverified giveaway messages to others, as doing so could expose more people to fraudulent platforms.
The company reiterated that subscribers should rely only on its official channels when checking the 25GB anniversary giveaway and other customer promotions.
