Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has shared a candid account of his past financial mistakes, revealing that he once borrowed money just to maintain a lifestyle that wasn’t sustainable.
Speaking during a recent episode of the MENtality Podcast, the actor warned young people against giving in to peer pressure or spending beyond their means in a bid to impress others.
Reflecting on his journey, Timini admitted that he once prioritized luxury purchases over long-term investments, a decision he now regrets.
“I borrowed money to live a fake life,” the actor revealed, urging people to avoid making the same mistake.
He also disclosed that he previously owned about 150 bottles of expensive perfume, explaining that he eventually realized the money spent on the collection could have been invested in assets such as land or real estate.
According to him, many people often make financial decisions based on appearances rather than genuine needs, a habit that can create unnecessary financial pressure.
Timini encouraged young Nigerians to regularly evaluate their spending habits and ask themselves whether they are buying things because they truly want them or simply to gain validation from others.
While noting that there is nothing wrong with owning luxury items such as expensive cars or designer watches, he stressed that such purchases should only come when one can genuinely afford them.
The actor said he has since changed his approach to money, choosing financial discipline and meaningful investments over trying to impress people.
His comments have sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians agreeing that the pressure to maintain a glamorous lifestyle often pushes people into avoidable debt and poor financial decisions.
